Expressions from Court Records
nam kimesne, nâm kimesneler – follows the name of the first party.
mahzarında or muvâcehesinde – Literally “in the womb,” meaning both parties are in court at the same time.
âzat ettiği, âzat ettiğini – Frees, freed. Literally “favored.” “Ali Bey b. Karaca’nın Çerkez asıllı câriyesini vasiyetle âzat ettiği” = “Ali Bey b. Karaca verily freed his Çerkez-born slave.”
merhûm, merhûme – deceased
mezbûr, mezbûre – said previously, the forenamed
asıllı – born. “Frenk asıllı” = “Frankish-born.”
hurre l-asl – freeborn
Nazyürür’ün mülk-i mahzıdır – “is the property of Nazyürür”
