This drawing purports to show two palace ladies and one of the African eunuchs assigned to guard them. In reality the artist could have seen African eunuchs, but the models for the women were probably prostitutes.
Black and white eunuchs had separate units at Topkapi Palace, not because of any notion that the races should be kept separate, but for the equally charming reason that black men were considered ugly and less of a temptation to the women they served. The women were all white for the same reason. Black female slaves were plentiful, but they were bought as maids, not as concubines.
As much as I love the Ottomans, they really, truly sucked.
