LARP and SCA Camping Tips

Clothing

When you are making your clothing, there are two things to aim for in clothing you expect to camp in. Make it machine washable, as it will get dusty, muddy, sweaty, smoky, and pretty much as thoroughly besmirched as it can be. Also aim for natural fabrics. poly-cotton blends are ok, but quite as good. natural fabrics are more comfortable, they breathe, and will help you stay cooler in hot weather, and insulate you in cold weather. if you are staying for a number of days it is a very fine thing to have a clean shirt or chemise for every day, though outer clothing can be worn a few times. Its all about the layers.

On Hats

Hats are wonderful, useful garments, well worth the packing space. simple pieces of fabric can help keep you warm or cool, and keep the sun and the rain alike off your head. There are all kinds of hats, but I recommend at the very least having a hood to keep you warm and dry, and a piece of fabric, cotton or linen for hot weather to keep the sun off, soak up sweat, and to soak in cool water when the day is at its hottest.
