LARP and SCA Camping Tips
Other Comforts
Flashlight
A small penlight can be a lifesaver, from stumbling about late
at night, to finding something in your tent. Candles and lanterns
are beautiful, but they may not be practical (or safe) for all you
light needs. Never light a candle in your tent.
Toiletries
Keep these as basic as you can. Deodorant, soap, toothbrush and
toothpaste, of course, but I recommend using some kind of liquid
soap (Like Dr. Brommer's) that you can you to wash yourself, your
hair, and in a pinch, some laundry, too. If you have contacts, be
sure you have everything you need to take care of them. You should
add a small bottle of Hand sanitizer to your kit, as well. And of
course, don't forget your towel.
First Aid Kit
band aids
4 x 4 pads
tape
disinfectant
triple antibiotic
Ace bandage
Hopefully you won't have to use any of these, but better to be
safe than sorry. If you are going with a group of people, you can
combine forces, and pack one kit, for the lot of you.
Preventive Measures
sunscreen
Insect repellent
aloe vera gel
anti-itch cream
...Because no prevention is 100%. If you don't need these things,
you might be able to make good friends with someone who does.
Mental Health
After all of this emphasis on physical health, staying clean safe
and unhurt, I wanted to say a word about mental health.
An important note. If you are out for four days or more, you may
find yourself irritable and jumpy. Sharing space with others- physical
and mental space, can be tiring. If you need a break, take one.
A good tip is to pack a book, and just take some quiet time off
by yourself when things are quiet. Even if you don't read the book,
most folks will assume you are reading and leave you in peace. Take
a little time to yourself and you may feel much better.
Take care of yourself, and have a good time!
